Skin Care & Nutrition
I just received another nice video tutorial from Dr.Vince Bellonzi discussing skin care. He makes the case that rather than spending a lot of money on expensive cream and other external treatments, it is better to concentrate on your nutrition. One of the major culprits is sugar, which changes your internal structure. You need nutrients that will give you collagen, omega 3 fatty acids (flax seeds, walnuts, avocados, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds. Additionally, some medications may have adverse effects on your skin. Too much sugar can also cause blemishes. Vitamin B’s are also very important. Hydration is another important factor, and if you drink coffee and tea, you will have to drink even more. Selenium has also been cited in protecting against sun damage, and it can be obtained from Brazil nuts and whole grains. Zinc is another important factor and can be found in peanuts, peanut butter, legumes and lentils. obviously, you will want to avoid alcohol and smoking. Olive, almond and coconut oil are extremely helpful in maintaining healthy skin. I usually add some coconut milk to my smoothies, which usually consists of some kind of leafy green vegetable, bananas and coconut milk. Flavanoids are extremely important because of their role as anti-oxidants. They can be found in Citrus fruits, like lemons, limes and grapefruits. Also, as is common knowledge, the peels of vegetables and fruits contain valuable nutrients. Hope this helps.
